NOTICE OF RACE
VANCOUVER ISLAND INVITATIONAL
INTER-CLUB REGATTA

September 11-12, 2010

The Schooner Cove Yacht Club is proud to host this year's Annual Inter-Club Regatta at Schooner Cove

To round up the regatta season, sailors from the Sidney North Saanich Yacht Club, Saltspring Island Sailing Club, Maple Bay Yacht Club, Lady Smith Yacht Club, Nanaimo Yacht Club and Schooner Cove Yacht Club are each invited to field a team of three boats to compete in the Regatta. At stake are trophies, reputations and important bragging rights.

Up to five races are scheduled in the waters around Schooner Cove Saturday and Sunday. The awards ceremony will occur Sunday afternoon.

The registration desk for this important event will open Friday evening September 10. A no host bar at the Dockside Cafe will available to cater to thirsty sailors. SCYC will serve breakfast for sailors Saturday and Sunday mornings. Boxed lunches will be available at the Cafe. Saturday evening will be a no-host bar and BBQ on the Point with live entertainment.

1. Rules and Eligibility/Ratings

1.1 The regatta will be governed by 'rules' as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012, the prescriptions of the Canadian Yachting Association when they apply, the rules of PHRF-NW, this Notice of Race and any subsequent Schooner Cove Yacht Club Sailing Instructions or SCYC Race Committee amendments that are deemed necessary to ensure a fun, safe and memorable weekend!

1.2 Appendix D team racing rules apply. Please take the time to familiarize yourselves with the recent changes.

1.3 This event is designated Class 'C' re: Advertising.

2. Team Requirements

2.1 Each club may enter one team consisting of three PHRF-NW rated boats, one fast boat, one medium boat and one slow boat. The sum of the three PHRF ratings must fall between 400 and 600.

2.2 SCYC will attempt to make loaner boats available in the event that a visiting team is short. The visiting team must supply skipper and crew, the boat owner or his appointed representative must be part of the crew.

3. Registration

3.1 Each team must register by completing the Regatta Entry Form for each boat and submitting the required documents by 0830 hrs Saturday September 11, 2010 to:

3.2 No boat substitutions may be made after 0830 hrs Saturday September

3.3 Applications must include photocopies of each team boat's current PHRF Certificate and Certificate of Insurance indicating public liability coverage for property damage, personal injury or death, valid for racing of not less than $1,000,000.

3.4 There are no registration fees for boats or teams entering the Inter-Club Regatta.

3.5 The Sailing Instructions and other information will be available for pick up at the SCYC Clubhouse between 1700 and 2100 September 10 and between 0730 and 0830 September 11. Sailing Instructions and this Notice of Race will be posted on the SCYC website.

4. Skippers meeting

4.1 The Skipper's meeting will be held at 0900 hrs Saturday, September 11, 2010 at the SCYC's Afterdeck Clubhouse.

4.2 The Official Notice Board will be on the seaward exterior wall of the Clubhouse.

4.3 Additions and amendments to instructions, protest notices and racing results will be posted on the official notice board at the Clubhouse.

5. Racing Venue / Scheduled Races / Scoring

5.1 Racing will take place off Schooner Cove Marina with committee-set marks used as turning marks. Please refer to the local CHS chart, 'Entrances to Nanoose Harbour', for more detailed information on the racing area. A diagram with marks indicated will be provided in the Skippers' Package.

5.2 A maximum of five (5) races over two (2) days are proposed, weather permitting. Three races are generally run on Saturday and two follow on Sunday.

5.3 A minimum of one race will constitute the regatta. Time on Time scoring will be used for all races.

5.4 Scoring for each race and the series will be as prescribed in rule D 3 and D 4 respectively.

7. Food and Beverage

In addition to those listed above, meals, drinks, box lunches and snacks are also available on-site during regular business hours at Dockside Cafe /Cold Beer & Wine store. Quality Foods grocery store is located at Red Gap Centre, approx 6 minutes away by car.

8. Safety Equipment

All boats entered in the Inter-Club Regatta must comply with applicable Canadian Coast Guard Regulations and the PIYA Category III requirements.

Boat entries should carry a VHF radio to receive instructions from the Race Committee.

9. Moorage

Complimentary moorage will be provided by Schooner Cove Marina to visiting race boats September 10, 11 and 12. Boats will be met as they arrive to assign appropriate moorage spots for their stay. If you have special moorage concerns, please contact SCYC Fleet Captain.

10. Disclaimer of Liability

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authorities will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
